Located in the heart of Lincoln, California, is a cherished landmark—the Woman’s Club of Lincoln. For a century this historic structure has been more than just a building. It has been a hub for gatherings, a main attraction for the local community, and a silent observer of countless moments. Recognized on the National Register of Historic Places, the Woman’s Club is a tribute to the town's storied past and its lively communal essence.
But as the town grows, so do the needs of its residents. To meet the demand for a larger meeting and event space, the Woman’s Club is embarking on an exciting new project: a second building that will complement the original, expanding its legacy while preserving its historic charm.
As we started on the design of the new building, it was clear that it needed to be more than just a mere addition. It had to carry on the legacy that began 100 years ago. The new events hall will be a companion to the current building, crafted from the same architectural cloth. It will mirror the historic charm of the original, with thoughtful design elements that blend the old with the new.
But this project is not just about bricks and mortar. Its main goal is to establish a place where the members of the community can gather, much like they have done for the last century. At the heart of this vision is a charming courtyard that will connect the two structures, featuring an ancient oak tree that has stood guard over Lincoln for hundreds of years. A fountain will contribute to the ambiance, as the relaxing sound of trickling water sets the perfect backdrop for gatherings and occasions.
The Woman's Club of Lincoln held a kick-off event on August 10 to reveal their exciting vision to the community. The night was truly enchanting, as club members put in great effort to make the atmosphere inviting and served a delicious spread of handmade delicacies, most made with love by the members themselves.
The event was made even more special thanks to the generous contributions of local businesses. Mindscape Fermentations provided a keg of their refreshing hard kombucha, while Dueling Dogs Brewing Co. offered some of their finest brews, ensuring there was something for everyone to enjoy. As guests mingled, they shared their excitement for the project, expressing how much they loved the design of the new building.
The project has garnered glowing reviews, with numerous participants noting that the new structure blends seamlessly with the historic building. In a constantly evolving world, there is a reassuring feeling of home in familiarity. This is what the new building aims to achieve - a lasting presence that effortlessly fits into the community, almost as if it has always been there, just waiting to be uncovered.
This project is more than just a building; it’s a reflection of the values that have always defined Lincoln—a commitment to community, history, and a shared future. By expanding the Woman’s Club, we’re not just preserving the past; we’re creating a space that will serve the community for generations to come.
With the plan in motion, the goal is evident, and the enthusiasm is palpable. Yet, without the support of the community, this goal cannot be realized. The Woman's Club of Lincoln has always been focused on collaborating to achieve something greater than themselves. Or, as we like to say: the whole is greater than the sum of the parts. This undertaking is not just about constructing a new building; it's an investment in the future of Lincoln. It entails safeguarding the past while constructing a venue that will benefit future generations.
If you believe in the power of community, if you’ve ever felt the warmth of a gathering at the Woman’s Club, we invite you to join us on this journey. To learn more about the project or how you can contribute, please visit https://womanscluboflincolnca.org/building-campaign.
