Jeffrey DeMure, AIA, loves spaces created with intent. As Jeff is fond of saying: “a thing of beauty is a joy forever, but ugly just hurts every day.” This lifelong passion has guided his over 40-year architecture career and leadership of JD+A since founding the studio in 2004.
Jeff holds licenses across 16 states – not to hang on the wall, but because relationships are the roadmap that guide us. We follow relationships wherever they lead, not confined by borders on a map. This dedication to partnership is woven into JD+A’s fabric.
One of the core concepts of JD+A is The Red Bench - a concept Jeff created to define the significance of designing and naming spaces. The Red Bench is a community icon that is unique, unexpected, and meaningful. The idea was born from a micro park in East Sacramento, where residents transformed a minuscule dirt patch into a serene community space. This signature concept is more than just an idea, it’s a charmingly delightful community symbol and real-life Red Benches can be found in several JD+A-designed communities.
Known for his insightful questions, he can be likened to the great Lightning McQueen, who said, “I create feelings in others that they themselves don’t understand.” Driving thought-leadership in the industry, Jeff penned Livable Design and Death to the Org Chart. His expertise can be heard resonating in forums as famed as PCBC, ULI, NAHB’s International Builders Show, The Seaside Institute, and many national aging services associations including LeadingAge.
Between leadership in his church, being a commercial pilot, and serving on the Lincoln Public Safety Foundation, he encapsulates JD+A's pioneering spirit. Ever the adventurer, you'll find Jeff charting untraveled territories with his wife and four children.
In 1854, a civil engineer created the first organizational chart. Shockingly, after over 150 years, this antiquated concept still dominates corporate America. Today’s entrepreneurs need a tool that provides the perspective to view the organization as a unique living organism. There is a new model for organizing your team that serves as an assessment tool to unearth imbalance within your organization and a roadmap for achieving that much-sought-after balance.
In Livable Design, Jeffrey DeMure, AIA, lays out the foundations of a revolutionary and yet incredibly simple new system, including how Livable Design™ can boost your business while also creating meaningful, transformative change that makes a life of comfort, ease, and dignity more accessible to each and every one of us
